3 Advantages of Taking Online Courses
3 Advantages of Taking Online Courses Image via unsplash.com Online courses come with flexibility When you are taking a regular course, youre expected to show up at a certain time and place. You take a gamble when it comes to your professors attendance policy you can either be expected to show up to every single lecture, or attendance can be voluntary. However, when it comes to taking an online course, youll get more flexibility when it comes to doing coursework. Depending on the online course you are taking, attendance can be accounted for in a variety of ways. There could be scheduled discussions or classes where you will need to be online at a certain time in order to complete an assignment. Or there could be recorded lectures that you will get to listen to on your own time. Its important to pay attention to deadlines, especially when you do not have a professor reminding you in-person. For the most part, you will get to choose when to complete your assignments, discussion posts, or online lectures depending on when it works best for your schedule. You can watch a lecture on your break during your part-time job, or at home in your own pajamas on a free day. Online courses give you the power to have more control over your own schedule. Online courses allow you to choose your productive space It is no secret that everyone performs differently in different environments. Some may excel in their own personal study space, but others may only get work done in a classroom or library. Choosing to take an online course allows you to take your online course where you feel most productive, and in turn, make the most out of your learning experience. Some people wont be most productive in your typical lecture hall space. There are distractions of fellow students: talking, electronic devices, moving in and out of their seats. When you are taking an online course, you can do coursework anywhere you see fit. You can watch lectures in the comfort of your own bed, at a calm park, or in a coffee shop with enough coffee to fuel your studies. Another perk of taking an online course is being able to limit the number of distractions you will face when doing your coursework. You can listen to music if you need to, wear noise-canceling headphones, eliminate extra electronic devices, and so on. The lecture in your typical college course may be going too fast for you as well, and you cant exactly ask the professor to slow down or stop every single time you have a question during the lecture. When taking an online course, however, you get to stop your online lecture if its prerecorded. You get to have control over how quickly or slowly you are learning, depending on what works best for your learning style. Online courses can limit the amount of socializing This can be seen as a disadvantage or advantage, but socializing isnt for everybody. Online courses allow you to learn from the comfort of your own home, away from the eyes of your fellow classmates. On bad days, you can get up and grab your laptop, and do your coursework in your pajamas without having to put effort into socializing. You dont need to worry about slapping on a smile when you are exhausted, and you dont have to awkwardly sit in silence when your professors tell you to turn to the person sitting to your right to discuss readings when both of you havent done them. You may still have to do discussion posts where you interact with others taking the online course, but it isnt the face-to-face interaction that many dread in typical classroom settings. You can comment on peoples posts without having to worry about facing them in person, and you can take your time articulating your thoughts into words instead of feeling like everything you say is the wrong answer. Taking online courses isnt for everybody, but if these advantages sound appealing, they may be the perfect fit for you and your schedule.

Because of this combination, he offers a full range of classes, some of which you can take to earn a degree. While he teaches a variety of subjects, he primarily teaches teaching techniques. He believes that a college degree o r advanced degrees are not necessarily the only way to learn. This way they have something to compare their ideas to and do not need to rely on memory alone. Online instruction usually features less classroom time than face-to-face instruction so students spend less time doing classwork. The other benefit of online tutoring is that Ga offers both classroom and online learning. That means you can earn both credentials while getting a full range of education. This is a great advantage for those who have children in private school or a job that demands to be on the road a lot.Ga will only use the online learning approach for students who cannot afford a classroom education. This is very appealing to parents who have a lot of extra time but do not want to give up their home.He believes that using online tutoring makes sense. As with all technology, Ga believes that convenience will eventually come along with it. While other systems may be more convenient, his decision to offer a full range of educational alternatives for everyone makes him one of the best instructors around.

The Chemistry of Running
The Chemistry of RunningWhat is the chemistry of running? As with many things, the chemistry of running is a combination of many different elements that make up the process of running a particular course, and this article will be about some of the different factors that you need to consider in order to reach the peak of success when it comes to running.Lets start by defining what a race is, and what running is, before we discuss the chemistry of running in any great detail. A race is defined as an athletic event where competitors meet for a set amount of time, and the victor of the race is the runner who can finish the course in the shortest possible time. Now let's discuss the chemistry of running in a more detailed manner, but first lets take a look at some elements that help define this concept.First off, a person who has a good 'chemistry' with the environment they run in is more likely to perform well. If you run in the right environment (the proper shoes, the right clothes) and you work out correctly (there are thousands of websites that specialize in helping you work out properly) then you will be able to do well in any race.Another thing that makes running fun is that it allows people to live in the moment. This means that at the end of the race your emotions will be greatly reduced, as you know that you've come through the race not only in one piece but also having performed well. This helps to reduce your stress levels, which in turn increases your overall health and performance. When it comes to shorter races, the effect of good chemistry with the terrain, as well as the general environment where the race takes place, can often allow you to do much better. For example, if you want to do well at 5k races, you will have to spend a lot of time in the trees, or perhaps go out onto the ice and into the deep snow. A good runner knows how to deal with these situations well, and therefore can keep a good chemistry with the race.Chemistry is very important to runners, and there are a number of reasons why. Let's discuss them in detail in a future article, and of course as always you should follow any advice given to you with an open mind. So, if you're a long distance runner, or if you are just beginning to get into the sport, what can you do to improve your performance? First off, stay healthy. Good nutrition, good training, and the right training gear will go a long way towards improving your performance.

In our minds he was the fat guy who always played at the back.â - Paul McCartneyA lot of aspiring musicians want to learn the guitar, the piano, or even the violin. However, significantly fewer people want to learn how to play the bass.Often, guitarists move to the bass but you donât play a bassline like you would an electric or acoustic guitar.According to a survey by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), many people choose to learn the guitar, the bass guitar was popular amongst boys with 28% interested in playing it.Girls favoured the flute, recorder, violin, and viola. Are you interested in the bass guitar?Letâs have a look at its history. Then thereâs the Guembri played by the Gnawa people. The bass guitar was designed to be a lighter version of the double bass that could be amplified. (Source: pixelia)During the 20th century, double bass players were looking for a way to play more loudly. In the 1930s in the United States, swing and jazz reigned supreme. Bands kept playing louder and louder as they travelled from town to town.Owing to its size, the double bass was difficult to lug around and it couldnât compete with the volume from the now-amplified electric Les Paul guitar. The electric bass, just like the electric guitar, was invented to make up for this lack of volume when it came to country, rock ânâ roll, and blues music. Luthiers were looking for a more powerful instrument that was lighter than a double bass.In 1910, the Gibson company created the first acoustic bass. It was a prototype without an amplifier but it met the needs of musicians. That said, it wasnât until the 1930s that the first electric bass was created. In 1933, the American Paul Tutmarc created the Model 736 Bass Fiddle in limited numbers. It had a short-scale neck, a solid body, and an electromagnetic pickup. The next model was the same size as guitars, included frets, and could be played horizontally. Adding frets to the four-string model helped musicians play the instrument with greater ease and it was easier to hold than the prototypes. Paul Tutmarcâs instrument wasnât much of a success in the 1930s and manufacturers Gibson and Rickenbacker preferred to work on what they already had. But the idea wasnât a complete failure.20 years later, Tutmarcâs idea would come back: the electric bass was born and music and American culture were about to drastically change. The bass guitar arrived just in time to turn the world upside-down.The First Bass Guitars in the 20th CenturyThe electric bass is one of the only instruments to be originally designed with amplification in mind. The first electric bass guitar was quite different to bass guitars now. (Source: seriouslycr8ive)When Paul Tutmarc invented his electric bass guitar, it just needed the right conditions and a few changes to make it work. Industrial processes and further innovations made the bass guitar more viable.Leo Fender (1909-1991) launched the first full-scale electric bass in 1951, the Precision Bass. The frets made it easier to play the right notes and vibrations in the strings were turned into an electrical signal through the pickup. This bass guitar became very popular with Jet Harris (The Shadows), James Jamerson (Motown), and Rocco Prestia. It resulted in a very particular groove. In 1960, the Jazz Bass was released. There were new sounds available thanks to its two pickups and had a thinner neck than the Precision Bass. The pickup by the bridge offers better middles whereas the pickup closer the neck offers more bass.Throughout the 60s, plenty of manufacturers started making versions: Gibson, Höfner, Rickenbacker, and Fender all flooded the market. The electric bass, particularly Fenderâs Jazz Bass were in every studio and at every concert. The 1960s marked the age of rock: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Who, The Doors, etc. The post-war boom saw a huge cultural revolution which created a great opportunity for the electric bass to flourish. Preamps started to be included in the 1960s to boost the high and low ends. Great bassists like Marcus Miller and Jaco Pastorius used the Jazz Bass.In the same year, the following manufacturers were created:IbanezMusic ManDanelectroESP GuitarsGL InstrumentsBC RichCortAlembicWarwickBass guitars, which are tuned in fourths (E, A, D, G), slowly started to replace double basses as they were essential in genres like rock ânâ roll and pop and later heavy rock and metal.Discover the best basslines.Developments to the Bass Guitar in the 1970sIn the 1970s, some bassists went back to fretless basses. As music changed, so did the instruments. (Source: Free-Photos)Jaco Pastorius (1951-1987) was known for his fretless bass playing both while accompanying other band members or as a soloist. The fretless bass allows for warmer, rounder tones than with a fretted bass and allows you smoother slides and vibratos up and down the neck.Experimentation led to the creation of the six-string bass in 1974. The bassist Anthony Jackson asked the luthier Carl Thomson to make him one. Why?To play even deeper sounds, a fourth below the low E. The professional luthier added a low B string. He nicknamed this instrument the âContrabassâ.In the 1970s, rock music led to different woods being used for the neck: ebony, maple, spruce, rosewood, ash, etc.Luthiers started doing it all!Changes to the Bass Guitar in the 1980sThe digital age emerging in the middle of the 20th century helped create new musical styles thanks to electric instruments like guitars and basses.5-, 6-, and even 8-string basses were c reated. There were basses made from carbon, thick necks, flat necks, everything! While guitars tend to get most of the limelight, there are tonnes of different types of bass guitars, too! (Source: danpicasso2)Similarly, the 1980s saw new types of pickups, volume and tone dials, and improved nuts.Manufacturers also looked to broaden their offering to meet demand. Every musician had different tastes and they loved the choice. In the 80s and 90s, composers sought to express themselves further. This is why so many variations to the bass guitar were made. There were even basses tuned an octave lower than standard tuning. 5- and 6-string basses were used in Latin, jazz, funk, and metal music. At just under 90 years old, there are now sub-categories of bass guitar:Electric bassElectro-acoustic bassFretless bassesExtended range bass (ERB): 5- or 6-string basses.Nowadays, bassists have the choice of using combo amps, heads, amps with tubes or transistors with their bass guitars.Beware: Bass amps are different from guitar amps. They canât handle the same frequencies. Now yo u should know more about the history of bass guitars. This should help you when it comes to learning how to play and choosing your first bass guitar.Find out more about the role bassists play.If you'd like to learn more, consider getting tutorials from one of the many talented bass tutors on Superprof. They can offer you one of the three main types of bass tutorials.Face-to-face tutorials are your traditional private tutorials between the student and a tutor. They're great if there's something specific you'd like to learn as the lessons will be tailored to you and your learning style. However, this bespoke service comes at a cost, meaning that this type of tutorial is usually the most costly.Online tutorials are also just between a single student and their tutor but their tutor won't be there in the room with them. Instead, they'll provide their tutorial over webcam. While this isn't always ideal for hands-on subjects, if you have a decent mic, a talented tutor can teach you how to play bass without even being in the room with you. Finally, you can also get group tutorials. With several paying students attending the tutorial, this type of tutorial tends to be the cheapest per person per hour. Of course, the tutor's attention is also divided amongst the students and they won't be able to tailor the lessons to a single student. However, in the beginning, this might be a good option as everyone needs to learn the basics and you don't want to spend too much money on a new hobby if you think you mightn't stick at it.Luckily for you, many of the tutors on Superprof offer the first hour of tuition for free. This is a great way to get to know your potential tutor, ask them about their teaching style, experience, and qualifications, and iron out the finer details of the kind of tuition you'd like.
Learning How to Sing How Long Should My Voice Lessons Be
Learning How to Sing How Long Should My Voice Lessons Be Suzy S. Interested in learning how to sing? Private voice lessons are a great place to start. But with so many options out there for pricing, lesson length, and location, how do you know whats best for you? Read on as Hayward, CA and online teacher Molly R. shares her recommendation So, youre signing up for voice lessons and see there are a few options, usually 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. Which length do you choose , either for yourself or for your child/teen? The first factor to consider is definitely age. My rule of thumb is that lessons for those under 12 should always be 30 minutes. The reason why I believe this works best is because children tend to have much shorter attention spans itâs not necessary to go into as much detail regarding vocal technique and repertoire! It would be much harder to fully engage the student in a longer lesson. Also, keep in mind that when youre first learning how to sing, you are not a fully formed instrument yet: students this young really donât NEED additional time! For now, itâs a matter of teaching just the basics of both technique and musicianship (while still keeping things fun!) The next thing to consider are your (or the studentâs) goals. Are there particular things you aspire to do, such as rock an open mic night, or start auditioning for local musicals? If so, you may want to consider an hour-long lesson. Typically, I spend the first half on vocal technique, and then the second half on polishing your songs with you so you get to feeling that youre âready for prime timeâ! But, suppose you donât care about performing. No, not everyone who signs up for voice lessons dreams of being in the spotlight! Believe it or not, I work with quite a few adults that are terrified at the very thought of it. They take voice lessons with me just because they find it fun and consider it a hobby! In that case, I recommend going with whatever feels right to you, either 30 minutes or an hour. There really isnt a right or wrong. There is plenty you can learn in either time frame. Lastly, consider how quickly you want to make progress. Even if youâre not out to perform, perhaps singing is something you really want to master, just for you. I work with some adult students who prefer hour-long lessons even though they are beginners who donât want to perform any time soon, if ever. They like longer lessons because they have plenty of time to practice at home and really enjoy the whole process. Likewise, I have students who are very busy and can only fit in 30-minute lesson every other week. These students still work very hard for those 30 minutes, and make the time here and there to practice (sometimes during their work commute!). Keep in mind that many teachers are willing to customize for you. Maybe you usually do 30 minutes, but once in a while you have an upcoming performance you really want to make solid and would like more help with your song(s). I always allow my students to mix it up, realizing that needs will certainly change. So, the short answer? Itâs all up to you if youâre a teen or adult singer. We are all different, so there is no one way to do voice lessons when youre learning how to sing! Molly R. teaches online and in-person singing lessons in Hayward, CA. Her specialties include teaching beginner vocalists, shy singers, children, teens, lapsed singers, and older beginners. She joined TakeLessons in November 2013. Learn more about Molly here! 3 Key Word Pairs You MUST Memorize in Spanish
3 Key Word Pairs You MUST Memorize in Spanish Sign up successful Letâs start with the first three most common distinctions in Spanish that donât exist in English. Whatâs the difference between ser and estar? Why does it matter? While both these verbs translate in English as to be, they refer to different types of being. Ser refers to permanent, stable, non-changing attributes, such as your gender, personality qualities, where youâre from, what you do for a living. Estar, on the other hand, refers to time- and situation-dependent attributes, conditions, and states, such as emotions or behavior. Ser is also used with events. Interestingly, ser is used with time and estar is used when referring to death, revealing fascinating implications about how most Spanish-speaking cultures regard life and death, stemming for their proclivity toward belief in the after-life and the Spanish languageâs Catholic legacy. Here is a useful example: When you use ser referring to boredom, you are saying, âHe is boring,â (referring to a boring person) whereas when you use estar referring to boredom, it means âHe is bored.â Because Spanish makes this distinction between these ways of being, there is no actual difference between the words bored and boring in Spanish, underscoring how important it is to learn these distinctions to boost your language skills and accurately convey what you mean. Similarly, if someone tends to be quiet across many contrasting situations, I would use ser, and if they are only being quiet now, I would use estar. Heres a great visual representation of the difference between ser and estar: Now, practice which to use in the following contexts (dont scroll down to the answers until you try the practice!): 1) Itâs 11 oâclock. 2) I am from San Francisco. 3) Iâm feeling happy about my new promotion. 4) The fly is dead. 5) Jim is tired. 6) Iâm usually energetic but know Iâm lethargic (note the two distinctions present here). Answer Key: 1) S 2) S 3) E 4) E 5) E 6) S, E Didnt score too well on the quiz? This video goes more into detail on the difference between ser and estar. Check it out for some additional pointers! Whatâs the difference between por and para? Why does it matter? While they both refer to the word âforâ in English, they are quite distinct. The general distinction is that por tends to emphasize movement, exchange, process and motion, while para emphasizes outcomes, deadlines, goals, results and/or destination. Aside from referring to âfor,â in many situations, por can also mean âbyâ or âthroughâ and para often means âin order to.â Practice which to use in the following contexts (again, dont scroll down until youre ready!): 1) I work to earn a living for my family. 2) The river passes through the valley. 3) The book was by Pablo Neruda. 4) I work for Juan Sanchez. 5) I paid $4 for the soup. 6) Thanks for playing. 7) For example 8) Iâll bring tomato for the party. Answer Key: 1) Para 2) Por 3) Por 4) Para 5) Por 6) Por 7) Por 8) Para Whatâs the difference between saber and conocer? Why does it matter? Saber and conocer both mean âto knowâ in English, but again theyâre strikingly different types of knowing. Saber is more about book knowledge, memorization, and procedural skills whereas conocer is about familiarity, âknowing ofâ things, and when you meet someone and/or know them. Practice which to use in the following contexts: 1) I know Mr. Big Boss. 2) I know the lyrics to that song perfectly. 3) I know how to cook. 4) I know that city. Answer Key: 1) C 2) S 3) S 4) C Need more help distinguishing between saber and conocer? This quick video lesson helps clear up a lot of the confusion.
